The UAE National Guard announced on 8 November 2026 that 22 seafarers had been rescued from a burning cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman. Its subsequent update said all were in stable condition.
The Coast Guard responded to an alert from the crew. Those rescued received first aid before being handed to the relevant authorities.
Vessel identity remains undisclosed
No vessel name, cause of the fire or precise incident time was disclosed. The announcement date is 8 November; it does not establish exactly when the emergency occurred.
The report follows CENTCOM’s statement on 7 November that an aircraft struck the stern of Huda. The US command said the cargo vessel had attempted to breach its blockade of Iran. No link between the announcements is confirmed: the rescue report alone cannot establish the condition of Huda’s crew.
Crew protection in focus
In a broader intervention on 6 November, IMO called for shipping lanes to remain safe and for seafarers to be protected regardless of nationality. Its Council stressed that crews have no control over geopolitical disputes affecting them.
Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez also highlighted the consequences of conflict for medical care and repatriation. That earlier intervention addresses the wider crisis; it is not a finding on the cause of this particular shipboard fire.
