A weight surcharge announced by CMA CGM on 29 October takes effect on 1 November for shipments from China to the Indian Ocean. It applies to 20-foot dry containers with gross weight above 18 tonnes.
The charge is $300 per qualifying container. Port Louis in Mauritius is excluded from that amount, retaining a $500 charge. The notice does not automatically cover every Chinese export or other container sizes. The carrier states that the measure remains applicable until further notice.
